Photographer Katharina Bosse presents two of her long-term projects in this lecture. One describes the many facets of a family teamwork. Since 2014 Katharina Bosse has been traveling with her children with the aim of producing images together. The portraits printed on expired photographic paper tell of the children's growing up and of ideas sourced from the collective pictorial memory.
The other project deals with a special historical place: Between 1933 and 1936, the so-called "Thingstätten" were built as propagandistic open-air stages and meeting places of National Socialism. 400 were planned, about 60 were built. Many of these sites, which are still little known today, can be found in Germany, Poland and Russia. An international joint project is dedicated to the search for traces from an artistic and scientific perspective.
The lecture will be held in German.
Katharina Bosse was born in Finland in 1968. From 1997 to 2003 she lived in New York and worked there as an artist as well as a photographer for magazines like the New Yorker. Today Katharina Bosse lives in Germany with her children. She is a professor of photography at the Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences.
Her awards include the 1997 Agfa International Award for Photojournalism, the City Artist Award 2021, and a commendation from the European Heritage Foundation for the 2021 Thingstätten project.
Her work is in internationally renowned collections, including MoMA, New York; Maison Européean de la Photographie, Paris; and the DZ Bank Art Collection, Frankfurt am Main. Bosse's work has been exhibited widely, including at the Centre Pompidou, Paris and MoMA, New York. The artist is a member of the collective femxphotographers.org.
