Seven days a week, the photo editorial department of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (F.A.Z.) commissions, sifts through and selects photos for the various F.A.Z. publications and channels. Every day, more than 18,000 photos are received from a wide variety of sources. A guided tour with Department Head Henner Flohr allows participants a rare look behind the scenes. With the help of the daily influx of images, the selection processes and the evolving importance of journalistic photography will be discussed. We will also have a fresh look at the next day’s newspaper. In addition, one of the editorial photographers will talk to the FFF Academy visitors about his daily assignments for the newspaper.
Henner Flohr was born in Peine in 1982. After his high school graduation and community service he studied English philology in Münster with minors in art history and economic policy. During university he worked as a freelance photographer, among others for the Münstersche Zeitung. Parallel to his master's degree, he began a traineeship in the picture editorial department of the Financial Times Deutschland in Hamburg, then became picture editor at the news agency dapd in Berlin. Until March 2011 Flohr was a picture editor at the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and since December 2019 he has become the Head of the Picture Editorial Department at the paper.
