Location: Fotografie Forum Frankfurt
Markus Schaden, founder of the Photo Book Museum discusses the book concept of “Home Sweet Home” with the photographer, Anton Gautama, Celina Lunsford, artistic director of the Fotografie Forum Frankfurt and Lans Brahmantyo, publisher and founder of Afterhours Books. Afterwards a book signing party with drinks and snacks will take place.
“Home Sweet Home”, by Anton Gautama gives insights into the Chinese-Indonesian culture through views of home interiors based in East Java and South Sulawesi: here vivid and detailed settings of modernity and history lie side by side. The photographer is fascinated with the inside of the home as if it is a book of life. “It is not easy to enter the Chinese houses, as they are very protective of their privacy”, says Anton Gautama. The unexpected visitor – Gautama – turns these minute impressions into visual statements about time, place and culture.
Anton Gautama (*1969) is a photographer based in Surabaya, East Java, Indonesia. He graduated with a Masters Degree in International Business from Hawaii Pacific University, USA. He later founded ALFALINK, a prominent overseas education consultancy. Since 2015 he has been working professionally as a photographer. Gautama expresses his passion through documentary photography. His photographs have been exhibited at the Goethe Institute, Jakarta and Institut Seni Indonesia in Jogjakarta. Gautama has received numerous awards for his work including Sony World Photography Awards (2017, Commended); Monovisions Photography Awards (2017, Honorable Mention) and Tokyo International Foto Awards (2016, Bronze Winner). His first monograph »Pabean Passage« (2016) reveals the milieu of traditional Indonesian spice markets through intimate colour street photography.
