How does an exhibition come to life? What steps lead from an initial idea to a final presentation in a physical space or a book? This workshop offers curators, art historians, editors, and photographers hands-on insights into the curatorial process.
At the beginning, workshop leader Mariko Takeuchi will introduce the fundamentals of curatorial work and, using the exhibition I’m So Happy You Are Here as an example, will demonstrate how concepts develop and are implemented. An insight into the current FFF exhibition will further facilitate discussions on curatorial decisions and concepts.
In the practical part of this workshop, participants will develop their own exhibition ideas. They are invited to bring a selection of max. 10 images on a specific theme or suggest photographers who inspire them. These suggestions will be analyzed and discussed individually: How can these images or works be integrated into a coherent exhibition? What titles, presentation formats, or narrative approaches are suitable?
The results will also be collectively reflected upon in the group. Finally, we will develop a selection of concept ideas, presentation forms, or potential events around the exhibition.
This workshop is designed for those who wish to gain a deeper insight into curatorial thinking and practice or have already gathered initial experience.
