In her lecture, Marina Planas Antich, visual artist, researcher and director of the cultural center Casa Planas in Mallorca, will speak about the center’s role as a hub for artistic research and contemporary image practices. As Casa Planas is based on the most significant European photo archive dedicated to tourism advertising she will focus on how historical visual materials such as postcards and promotional photographs shape our collective memory. read more

“HIDDEN ARCHIVES: TOURISM, PHOTOGRAPHY AND COLLECTIVE MEMORY”

Thursday–Saturday, September 18–20, 2025, 10 am– approx. 6 pm (Mallorca) 


This unique combination of two workshops (can be also booked individually) offers a special opportunity to explore tourism in relation to photography and collective memory.

In Frankfurt, Marina Planas Antich invites participants to reflect on the impact of tourism on urban spaces and identities.

The workshop in Mallorca is designed as a visual study trip to the research and cultural centre Casa Planas. The centre houses the most important photographic archive in Europe dedicated to tourist advertising.

In her tour, Andrea Horvay, curatorial assistant, will focus on the diverse visual language of the more than 20 Japanese female photographers in the group exhibition, which reveals what has long been overlooked.
